Walks for Matt Hampson

Day 6 - Midsomer Norton to Bath Another sunny day. Had a bacon sandwich made for me by mission control which was very nice, than off to my drop off point. Just south of Radstock and on to Bath today, a half day as we were guests of Bath Rugby at the Wasps game. Thanks Tim! Today the Compeed plasters were fighting a bit of a loosing battle with the blisters, and things were all a bit painful. I have one toe on my right foot I don't really like to look at at all, and one massive blister all along the bottom of my left foot. And two little toes all blistered. Not to mention the three red or black toenails. Ugh. SO, when I passed a factory early in the day in Radstock, called "Blister" I had to take a snap of that! Now, I know I moaned about men yesterday which was very sexist and nasty, so to redress the balance, this snooty bird in a sports car pulls up next to me, having just started hobbling along the road; huffs very loudly as I continue walking and drives right up next to me and hollers shrilly out of the window "Can I borrow you for a moment" I don't know why really, but by now my back was well and truly up, so I just stopped and stared at her, with my sexy high visibility jacket and my hobbling, and she said "I want you to give me some advice" WHAT! So I just said No and hobbled on, at which she slammed the car into gear, and screeched off yelling "Try to be Nice!" Snotty cow. I obviously should have tugged my forelock and called her ma'am. Oh I am spreading the joy! Walked the 8 miles to the Park and Ride and met up with Kevin (leaping out of a hedge at me, he'd found a cunning short cut through a hedge so I didn't have to walk all the way round!) Picked up my bucket and had a sock change etc and then walked on into the town with Kevin navigating. Took a lovely route up over the hill to get a great view of Bath and then down to the ground. Had lunch at a Nepalese restaurant YakYetiYak which was different. Lamb skewer starter was nice, then a chilli chiken dish with dhal and rice, good too. Not a fan of coriander though, had to pick that out a bit. Fussy. Had a great day today at The Old Rec, very exciting last session with Bath all over their line but didn't win, just missed the draw by missing a very hard corner flag conversion. Met a few Bath and Wasps fans there who actually sought me out from chats on their forums and the piece on their website which was really nice. Pretty bloomin' obvious who we were though both in Tigers shirts with home-made Walk4Matt t-shirts carrying a large decorated bucket! We got quite a lot of donations chucked in it so worth the bother of carrying it the last 2 miles. £76.71! Thanks everyone! Met David Barnes and had a good chat. What a nice guy. He is very knowledgeable about Matt and thinks he is a top bloke, too. Also met a great Bath season ticket holder who wear a Tigers shirt to every game! Great character, who flew off with my bucket down to his end to nobble all his friends for a donation. Lovely to meet the Wasps fans that have been so supportive of my walk. Richard had done 3 walks for Matt of his own, and stopped for a good chat. He and Barney and the others all did the last one. Lovely to meet Susanne from the Bath forum too. What a nice day. Had a few drinks in the Clubhouse Bar and chatted to lots of folk. Got a couple of photos with players outside and then headed home on the Park and Ride. I should really explain by the way that yesterday the photo of those green things were caterpillars on the tarmac. The pub we ate lunch at was infested with the things. When I went to the toilet there was a little girl saying she didn't want to go in the toilet with the caterpillars and I thought, how sweet.. imaginary caterpillars - then I saw all the caterpillars! I always forget what I have photographed when I blog. |
