Day 6 - Ilchester to Midsomer Norton

Another fantastic sunny day. But that's where the fantastic stops. Today was a gruelling scary trudge along main road, wearing my super sexy high visibility jacket and clutching my St Christopher. At one point I had a bit of a girly turn and scooted off down a footpath swearing it would be quicker as I didn't keep having to leap into hedges to avoid juggernauts, but it took me way out of my way and was a real churned up track that was slow to walk along. Mission control madly sought an alternative route, but there really wasn't one, so he guided me up nice back roads back to the A37 much further up and I carried on. It was actually much better once the traffic had died down a bit and I had worked out a bit of a routine to keep safe. Mission control was EVERYWHERE today which made me feel much safer. I would round a bend and there he was, so I have taken a photo of Kevin in the car, which is, at the moment, the nicest sight in the whole world!

Past a place called Four Foot, which is about how tall I am now, so took a photo of a sign there. Met for lunch at a pub in Wraxall. Lasagne, needed something comforting. There was a vineyard there that sold mead but we just don't have time to visit which is a shame. We're really into Roman stuff and would have loved to have a crawl around Ilchester but time is ticking on. Passed through a couple of medical conditions, Stone and Pylle, at least I haven't got those yet...and then finally at the 14 mile mark I got off the road from hell and onto a smaller road.

Can I just say to everyone who flashed their lights at me, beeped, made whistly noises and all that boy stuff around Wraxall.. WHY? I looked like crap...is there not much going on around Wraxall? I don't think that stretch was any more dangerous as I was on a footpath, do you know what I reckon..if guys are busy trying not to crash into you they behave like normal humans (i.e. women) and if you are on a footpath you are now totty to be beeped at and not hazard. Very odd, you males.

Walked on smaller roads through Shepton Mallet, nasty traffic jam, digging up the roads, don't come, and off up the Fosse Way past a great viaduct. OK so now I am on lonely footpath so I should be happy. Wrong, scary bloke with pitbull made me jump. I had never realised quite what a pathetic wimp I was before! The rest of the track was great though, beautiful countryside and a Roman road. Bit stony mind, you had to watch every footfall in case you twisted something. At every road intersection, there was knight in silver Audi, giving me water and encouragement, which was really great. Went through a wood which was really muddy and steep and then on to the big roads again for the last few miles. I have got hard now. I just stare them all down and plod on. 22 miles done. Dodgy feet. Tired.

Really looking forward to the Bath/Wasps game tomorrow as they have made us very welcome. Don't you love rugby? And not so far to walk tomorrow.
