Day 5 - Bath to M4 (Yes, out of sequence! new map loaded) Today was supposed to be my rest day, but as the sun was shining we thought we'd get a few more miles on the clock. Bath was going to be my most complicated place logistically, parking and getting round it to pick up etc, so we decided to do the section leaving Bath today and on up under the M4. Out of sequence I know, but it will help later. So I set off from a very beautiful sunny Bath, and guess what, managed to get lost again the minute Kevin had left me. Oh dear. Had lunch at the George and Dragon in Batheaston which was very friendly with really reasonably priced food. Mixed nibbly platter today. Now what I was saying about Somerset and being flat fell to pieces today because around Bath is far from flat. Not that I'm sure what county Bath is in now with Avon coming and going. I'm sure someone will put me right. Got onto the Fosse Way for the first time and heading Northeast. A good feeling. Passed some beautiful countryside. Long, straight road and the sun beating down on me. Brilliant. Just walked, and walked. Kevin popped up a couple of times to take pics and so on. Passed a great stone doodah The Three Counties stone, which I guess joins Wilts, Glos and Som? Went past an airfield which was top security and met a woman laden down with a massive pack and in military gear yomping along and she wouldn't look at me or speak. Very top security woman. But she wasn't scary. I could have had her. Just knock her over and she'd have been like a tortoise. One of my toes is really pulp. I can feel a picture coming. Or shall I save you? Nah, you deserve to suffer too. |
