Day 4 - Honiton to Ilchester (New map loaded)

Day 4 was the most beautiful day. I have been so lucky with the weather. Each morning takes a bit longer to vaseline up and cushion all my ailing toes and blisters, but set off about 9.30 on a re-routed walk, as the A303 had scared me.

To be frank - everything scares me! Cows, nettles, dogs, lorries, wasps, parked vans. Today I had my fill of cows and scary dogs. The farmer proudly told me there were 140 of them as they squashed by me on a country lane. Thankfully all 140 decided I didn't deserve a mullering. I'd also like to thank Jessie the dog for deciding not to bite me although it was touch and go for a moment. I'd also like to thank the many cars who have decided not to mow me down, even though by the end of the day it may have seemed the kindest thing to do. See photo of massive hay lorry which very nearly did.

One of the photos hopefully shows the family of dim witted pheasants which I herded down same country lane as cows. They just didn't understand go left or go right, and I followed them for about a mile.

Met Kevin for lunch at The Green Dragon at Combe St Nicholas. It was very green, inside. Quite alarmingly green, but great food and a great welcome. Monk fish wrapped in proscuitto. Yum. I had just got very excited a few moments before by a sign that had Somerset up the middle of it. I hadn't realised I had got to Somerset so that was great. Somerset and I are going to get on, as it is nice and flat. The start of my day had been really hilly. I did take a photo of flat Somerset which I hope came out. In case you can't picture it.

Plodded on to Martock which was really pretty. All yellowy stone and grand houses. Met up for a pit stop at some village that helpfully had locked its toilets. Did they not know I was coming? So Kevin had to do an emergency blue light flashing dash to the service station as once you think you're going to be able to go, you really need to go!

It's been really great to know that he is loitering about for emergencies. It's all gone really well. There was a minor hiccup at the end of the day where we were waiting for each other at different junctions, and I couldn't get his phone. But he worked it out when my GPS signal stopped somewhere else, and he hared up to get me. I have never been so pleased to see his car! Raced home as it was 6.30 and had a bath and went to my sisters for supper, thanks Sis. Great meal and company, sorry I looked like death! Then back to my parents house to bed. We have house swapped which is brilliant. Thanks parents! If anyone is an insomniac or fat, try walking 22 miles a day. I have never slept so well and have discovered belt holes I never knew were there.

Morning off tomorrow to soak feet and write up blog and wash socks. Not time last night.
