Day 1 - Launceston to Dartmoor
Well, the big day has finally arrived!
Met up at Launceston RFC and the wonderful people there had put on tea and coffee and bacon butties. We were so grateful to everyone who had got out of bed on a Sunday morning to see a mad woman start a walk. Particularly the morning after fantastic wins by both the first and second team away at Cinderford. A special thanks to Darren the minis coach and his lovely son who made us welcome, and a very special thanks to Simon the head coach, first team player Ryan Westren and Lindsay Hedges from the Glenvale Nursery in Lifton who all walked the first bit with me. It was great to have the company and get to chat to the guys about the club. And Lindsay walked all the way to my house with me, where I stopped for a cup of tea. It was really like I wasn't doing a gruelling walk at all.
Then I headed off on my own, up though Whitehall Woods and onto the old A30 to Bridestowe, where I met up with my son and husband for a carvery at the White Hart. Very nice crackling. Actually I met up with my husband, Kevin about 4 miles before when I had to call him out for emergency blister treatment. We really do need to get him a flashing light. Compeed plaster attached I was fine and back on the road.
Then my lovely son Ben walked the next 11 miles with me to the end of the day's walking. Quite funny though as when the car pulled up to let Ben out, I got in, out of habit. Then felt a bit of a prat and got out again. That was great to have company as it sped the time along chatting. Kevin met us along the route a few times to take photos and act as a pointer to a really great footpath to avoid one bit where the road got nasty. Dartmoor scenery all around us. Weather was great. It can really only get worse!
I am now having supper cooked for me and have a nice glass of wine. Fantastic. Not relishing the idea of putting my feet back in the shoes tomorrow though. |
